Investing in our community

Since its inception the Co-op has actively supported community and sporting groups. In only its second year of operation, the Co-op donated a trophy to the Emerald Football Club to be awarded to the Best and Fairest Player.

In 1955 Emerald Mechanics Institute the focus of Emerald’s social life and scene of many Co-op shareholders and director’s meetings was destroyed by fire. In true co-operative spirit, the Co-op encouraged the Emerald community to rebuild. Their news bulletin urged members to give their full support to the re-building appeal and the Co-op collected donations on behalf of the Hall Committee. From the local garage the Co-op obtained a promise of a car and a tractor for a raffle and prizes were donated for a spinning wheel.

At the  1955 AGM Shareholders voted to donate 10 percent of the trading surplus for the year ending 1956 to the rebuilding fund.

Over the years the Emerald Co-op and its shareholders have been investing in our community, providing sponsorships, shopping vouchers, goods and volunteer hours to assist local groups such as Primary, Secondary and Pre-schools, Service Clubs, Mens Shed, the Country Fire Authority, Emerald RSL, Emerald Scouts, U3A Emerald, sporting & arts groups and many more.

Thanks to its many shareholders, Emerald Co-op has contributed in excess of $200,000 in the past five years to help grow our community and invest in its future.
